Double-ended needles are pointed at both ends which allows them to be used from either end. These have been most commonly used to knit smaller tube-shaped pieces such as sleeves, collars, and socks. These pins are used in sets of four or five. The aluminum finish tends to produce faster knitting. The short pins are used for socks, gloves and hats. The longer pins are necessary for adult size sweaters .
